Healthy Living
We know that all parents want their children to grow up to be healthy and strong and we try to support families with this aim through our healthy living policy.
Government advice is that children under 5 should have at least 3 hours of physical activity every day. For this reason, at Nursery School, we minimise time spent sitting down and encourage all our children to spend time outdoors, whatever the weather. Having lots of opportunity for functional movement through play helps children develop the large muscle groups, balance and sense of self that they need to be ready for school.
We support the development of a healthy diet by providing vegetables, fruit, milk and water at our snack table. Parents whose children stay for lunch club are encouraged to provide a balanced packed lunch that meets the child’s high energy and nutrient needs.
This webpage has lots of good ideas for healthy lunch boxes.
Victoria Park has registered with the “Sun Safe Nurseries” scheme. During warm sunny weather, we advise that all children wear a top or t-shirt covering their upper backs and shoulders and that they are provided with a wide-brimmed or legionnaire-style hat. All children should have had sunscreen applied before the start of their nursery session, and children attending for a full day should be provided with named sunscreen so that staff can re-apply over lunchtime.
