Children of all ages need to have high levels of wellbeing before they can start learning. It’s something we monitor very carefully and is the reason we take transition from home to Nursery School so seriously. Some children settle in very quickly, and others need a little more support – we respond to their individual needs so that they have a positive first experience of being separated from their main carers.
For children to challenge themselves they need to have a high level of involvement in what they are doing. Our experienced staff observe the children very carefully and know exactly when to step in to extend the children’s learning or support them to challenge themselves. Our focus is particularly on supporting children to develop the “characteristics of effective learning”. These are the ways in which children engage with other people and their environment – playing and exploring, active learning, and creating and thinking critically. They underpin learning and development across all areas and support the children to become effective and motivated learners.
